The Líl̓wat Nation Housing Department understands that for some members, paying rent will be a challenge. The unemployment, business shutdowns and the need to self-isolate that have come with COVID-19 are creating financial hardship for many.
Luckily, there is help.
Provincial Rent Subsidy
The BC Government is providing a rent subsidy—The BC Temporary Rental Supplement Program—to a maximum of $500/month for eligible renters across BC. Please visit BC Housing for more information and to assess your eligibility at bchousing.org.
Feron Wallace and I will be available to help you apply for the provincial rent subsidies with any documentation, such as rental agreements or statements, which may be required. You can reach the Housing department through the main office number at Úll̓us: 604.894.6115, or by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note that renters on Social Assistance (SA) are not eligible for the provincial rent subsidy
BC Hydro COVID-19 Relief Fund
If or your spouse/partner have lost employment or have become unable to work due to COVID-19, you may be eligible for three months of bill credit based on your average consumption. The application is not open yet, but we expect it to open the week of April 13. Once it opens, there is no rush to apply. Eligible customers can apply any time before June 30, 2020 to receive the credit.
For more information, please click here: BC Hydro COVID Relief Fund.
We are currently working on ALL the April 1, 2020, rental agreements. Rental-to-own agreements remain in effect to the end of the mortgage period. Thus, the annual rental agreements are for renters only, not rent-to-own tenants. We will be available to provide assistance and/or documentation required for the rental or rental-to-own agreements.
In this unusual time, we wish you, your family, relatives, friends and our community, health and safety.
Housing Manager, Líl̓wat Nation
