Ama Sqit Nsneknukwa7,
4248 sockeye through the Birkenhead River Sockeye Counting fence as of midnight Sunday Night. They are starting off slower than in other years, but the fish look big and healthy. Only 1 carcass on the fence in the last 4 days: a male pre-spawn with no signs of physical trauma.
We’re seeing a lot of jacks, and one of our fish techs may have seen a pink salmon behind the fence yesterday morning. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on these “jacks” to see if they are actually some pink salmon that followed the sockeye down south this year.
