Líl̓wat Nation is closely monitoring an upcoming rain event that is expected to bring significant precipitation to our region through the next 24 to 48 hours. As a result, the Lillooet, Green, and Birkenhead Rivers are all expected to reach high levels.
Current Status:
While river levels are currently rising, the Nation is keeping a close eye on conditions and is in communication with the BC River Forecast Centre. High streamflows can lead to unpredictable riverbank stability and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Safety Precautions for Community Members:
- Stay Clear of Riverbanks: Fast-flowing water can cause sudden erosion. Keep children and pets away from the edges of the Lillooet, and Birkenhead rivers.
- Avoid Water Activities: Do not attempt to boat or fish during this high-water event.
- Monitor Localized Flooding: If you notice unusual water ponding or debris near your home, please report it immediately.
- Secure Property: Ensure any loose outdoor items near water channels are moved to higher ground.
Updates & Communications:
The Nation will continue to monitor the situation throughout the event and will provide updates as needed via the Official Lil’wat Nation Facebook Page and the Lil’wat Nation Website News Portal.
In the event of an emergency or if you require immediate assistance, please contact the Líl̓wat Nation Administration at 604-894-6115 or email info@lilwat.ca.
