Community Members of Líl̓wat Nation,
We are pleased to announce that Líl̓wat Nation will be undertaking significant housing renovations to improve the health, safety, and comfort of homes for families with young children. This initiative is made possible through recently awarded funding via Child & Family Services.
Project Details
Scope of Work: The project involves major, multi-trade renovations, including carpentry, window replacement, and upgrades to plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. A primary focus is addressing mold, moisture, and ventilation issues to eliminate health and safety hazards.
Number of Houses: Twenty houses with young families were identified and selected for renovations with input from the Housing and Child & Family Services departments. Ten homes will be renovated this year (2026), with the remaining ten scheduled for 2027.
Timeline: Work on the first ten homes, which have already been notified, is scheduled to commence in March 2026.
Additional Information
The Nation has submitted several Housing Support Program (HSP) applications for further home renovations, some of which have already been approved. We are awaiting decisions on the remaining applications and will be reaching out to inform those who were approved shortly. Additional phases of renovation will be performed this year and affected homes will be notified accordingly.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time as we work to create safer and more secure housing for our community members.
