Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you may know, the Ministry of Education has announced new rules, regulations and timelines for developing and issuing the 2013/2014 and future school years’ calendars.  The School Act now requires the Board of Education to publicly issue a proposed calendar for each school by February 28, 2013, to enable consultation with parents and employee groups prior to submitting approved calendars for each school to the Minister of Education by March 31, 2013.

The Board has decided that while there are many creative possibilities for calendars in the future, with short timelines for the 2013/14 calendar, a more conservative approach was appropriate at this point. They have asked for a ‘similar calendar’ to be created for next school year and for broader consultation to then be used for the creation of future school calendars. With this in mind, the Board of Education would like to deal specifically with the most prominent annual calendar issue, that being the duration and placement of the Spring Break. Below is a link to a brief calendar survey to this effect.

This survey will remain open for your completion from Thursday, December 5, 2012 through to Friday, January 11, 2013. At that point, the Board will consider all input and move forward to the next aspects of the 2013/2014 calendar development.

Thank you for completing this brief Spring Break survey. Please also consider providing input to your local school calendar (Parent Conferences, Collaboration Days, etc.) through an upcoming PAC meeting at your child’s school. If you have any questions, please contact our Assistant Superintendent, Ian Kent at 604-892-5228.
