For Immediate Release
July 29, 2011 – Mount Currie, BC
Early this morning a member of our community was viciously attacked by three dogs – believed to be pit bulls. The individual received serious injury and we are hoping they can recover quickly.
This incident is shocking and completely unacceptable. Although all the facts of what happened are not yet entirely clear, Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police and the Lil’wat government have demanded that the owner destroy these dogs immediately.
We will not tolerate any animals that have shown this kind of aggression to community members or anyone else. Dog control has been an issue in the community over many years and we have taken steps with other partners like Whistler Animals Galore to encourage spay/neuter; dog control; and collection of stray dogs for adoption.
Obviously more work remains to be done – both as a community and as responsible dog owners. At this time we will not be making any other comments as we are focused on dealing with the safety of the individual and the removal of these dogs immediately.
