Facebook is a social networking website where users can post comments, share photographs and post links to news or other interesting content on the web, chat live, and watch short-form video. Facebook is free.

Twitter is an online social networking site where people communicate in short messages called tweets. Tweeting is posting short messages for anyone who follows you on Twitter, with the hope that your messages are useful and interesting to someone in your audience. Twitter is free.

Pinterest is social media network that allows users to share images associated with project, goods, and services, and to visually discover new interests by browsing images others have posted. Pinterest is free.

 LinkedIn is a social network that focuses on professional networking and career development. You can use LinkedIn to display your resume, search for jobs, and enhance your professional reputation by posting updates and interacting with other people. LinkedIn is free.

Instagram is a social media app that allows users to share photos and videos from their lives, add captions, edit filters, tweak settings, engage with others, explore and creep, and so, so much more. Instagram is free.

Q. What is common amongst all social networking sites?

  • the need to secure your data and personal information
  • manage the risk about malware, phishing, spreading spam
  • be aware fake accounts impersonating you or family and friends
  • elders are targeted for scams
  • social networks privacy setting is by default WIDE OPEN, adjust it

Every time you browse the Internet, your privacy is under constant threat from cybercriminals, governments, and corporations who want to get their hands on your personal information. That’s exactly why it’s up to each one of us to protect our privacy and personal space on the Internet.

This is not about employee policy, nor is this about Chiefs and Council bi-laws.  This is meant to be a community lesson message.

Using Facebook does change our world for better or worse is up to you.
