The Ts̓zil Learning Centre Advanced Education Manager is responsible for managing the relationships and agreements between Capilano University and School District 48 while supporting Lílwat Nation members who are preparing to attend Post-Secondary both in and out of the community.

Key Deliverables:

  • Manage the Post-Secondary funding budget for both internal and external Líl̓wat Nation learners
  • Manage the students’ sponsorship accounts for tuition, books/supplies and living allowance
  • Responsible for all reporting on the Post-Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP) budget, to funders
  • Develop a positive working relationship with individuals interested in the Post-Secondary education
  • Assist in program recruitment and help individuals with the Post-Secondary application and sponsorship process
  • Liaise with the Post-Secondary institutes that sponsored students are attending
  • Lead in processing applications and making student sponsorship decisions
  • Partner with students to develop their ‘education road map to success’ and foster achievement for their goals, when needed
  • Coordinate assistance and interventions for students in collaboration with the Learning Facilitator
  • Maintain efficient, confidential and organized record-keeping systems
  • Assist with writing proposals for future programs
  • Organize orientation meetings with students (Internal and External)
  • Oversees the School District (SD) 48 Aboriginal Support Workers, and supervises the Learning Facilitator
  • Act as the official Ts̓zil liaison with Capilano University, School District 48, and Xet̓ólacw Community School
  • Oversees the Líl̓wat Bursary and Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Participate in the Líl̓wat Nation Lifelong Learning Strategy project
  • Assists the Director of Tśzil with negotiations related to education and educational partners
  • Provide quarterly reports to the Tśzil Education Committee
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

 Key Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work or related degree, Master’s Degree an asset
  • Class 5 Driver’s License with a working vehicle
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in a First Nations community and/or First Nations school
  • 2-3 years’ experience coordinating programs and managing large, complex budgets
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a management and/or supervision position
  • Minimum 2 years of experience supporting/coaching students or clients to achieve goals
  • Experience with addressing issues such as trauma, violence, various forms of abuse, etc. as they relate to learning
  • Knowledge and understanding of Líl̓wat Nation’s culture and history
  • Knowledge and understanding of Post-Secondary institutional system
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a strong ability in report writing and proposal writing
  • Advanced level computer skills and knowledge, including: Microsoft Office and data management skills
  • Provide successful, valid Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector)
  • Willingness to learn by participating in an Essential Management Skills certificate program
