The Land and Resources Department is seeking reliable individuals who are interested in working as Temporary Casual On-call Fisheries Technicians for the Líl̓wat Nation Land and Resources Department.  Duties will include collecting and recording data for Sockeye Salmon count and sampling program as well as for the Coho Salmon count for the purpose of salmon stock assessment.  Candidates must be physically fit, have knowledge of outdoor safety, and be prepared to work outdoors in all conditions.  Candidates may be required to work in rough terrain as well as have the abilities for some river crossing.    Long days and early mornings may be required.  The sockeye salmon counting fence requires shift work during the months of August and September, when the fence will be operating 24 hours/day and 7 days/week.  The Coho Salmon count involves work during the months of September, October and into November and requires early morning starts and some computer work.  We encourage applications from those with entry level skill and willingness to learn, as well as those with more skills and experience


  • Be punctual, reliable and prepared to work outside in all conditions
  • Conduct field duties and data collection under the direction of the crew supervisor
  • Fill out Daily Activity Report
  • Prepare project field report, as required
  • Support and role model values and vision of Líl̓wat Nation
  • Assist with other deliverables as required


  • Level 1 first aid a requirement
  • Physical ability to work in and about the rivers, streams, and rough terrain
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Fisheries Field Technician Certificate an asset
  • Environmental Monitoring Certificate an asset
  • Basic Report Writing skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Previous experience in data collection and analysis an asset
  • Valid BC Driver’s License an asset
  • Vehicle an asset
  • Swift-water and Flood Rescue Certification an asset
  • RISC Archaeological & CMT Training Certificate an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Líl̓wat Nation culture, history and traditional territory an asset
