The Líl̓wat Nation is seeking a Community and Work Place Health and Safety Officer to join its dynamic and progressive team.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will have the responsibility for providing leadership, guidance and support in the planning, development, management, administration and reporting of Líl̓wat Nation Community and Work Place Health and Safety Plans, Policy and Programs. The successful candidate for the Position of Community and Work Place Health and Safety Officer will have the following Essential and Desired Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma with a Post-secondary Health and Safety Certificate or Diploma or equivalent Training and Experience
  • Level II First Aid Certificate
  • Prefer Fire Protection / Services Training
  • Related Formal Training to include Work Place Health and Safety, Policy Development, Planning, Budgeting, Report Writing and Related Health and Safety Codes and Professional Standards
  • Minimum of two (2) years directly related experience in Health and Safety
  • Experience working with First Nation Communities
  • Prefer experience with accident investigation, workplace inspections and job hazard analysis
  • Experience working with a Work Place Health and Safety Committee
  • Working knowledge of WorkSafe BC
  • Working knowledge of related current Government Statutes, Regulations and Programs
  • Other related Professional Qualities, including:

    • Interpersonal and People skills
    • Formal Planning and Organizational Skills
    • Ability to work in a Consultative and Collaborative manner
    • Ability to demonstrate tact, discretion and sound judgment
    • Communication Skills, both oral and written

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

    • Ability to coach, mentor and chair meetings
    • Ability to physically perform position responsibilities
    • Ability to perform diverse duties and responsibilities
    • Computer skills (Microsoft Applications)
  • Current Criminal Records Check will be required
