The Land and Resources Department is seeking individuals who are interested in working as on-call field technicians for the upcoming Annual Sockeye Salmon Count.

Status:                              Casual/Temporary/On-Call for the 2017 – 2018 Field Season
Reporting to:                Fisheries Manager, Land and Resources Department
Wage:                               Dependent on experience

Summary:

The Land and Resources Department is seeking individuals who are interested in working as on-call field technicians for the upcoming Annual Sockeye Salmon Count conducted by the Land and Resources Department:

All on-call field technician roles require the ability to collect and record data and a basic level of computer knowledge to prepare field reports.  Field technicians must have physical abilities and safety training for working in the outdoors in different conditions and rough terrain within the Líl̓wat Traditional Territory.  Shift work is required to work on the sockeye salmon counting fence, which runs 24 hours/day and 7 days/week during the months of August, September and first week of October.  We encourage applications from those with entry-level skill and willingness to learn, as well as those with more skills and experience

Duties:

  • Be punctual, reliable and prepared to work outside in all conditions
  • Conduct field duties and data collection under the direction of the crew supervisor
  • Fill out Daily Activity Report
  • Prepare project field report, as required
  • Assist with other deliverables as required
  • Operate the Generators

Qualifications:

  • Level 1 first aid
  • Physical ability to work in and about the rivers, streams, and rough terrain
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Líl̓wat Nation culture, history and traditional territory
  • Previous experience in data collection and analysis an asset
  • Fisheries Field Technician Certificate an asset
  • Environmental Monitor Certificate an asset
  • Valid BC Driver’s License an asset
  • Vehicle an asset
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Basic Report Writing skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
