Reporting to:                    Fisheries Manager, Land and Resources Department
Wage:                                  Dependent on experience


The Land and Resources Department is seeking 2 individuals who are interested in working as Temporary Full-Time Fisheries Technicians for the Líl̓wat Nation Land and Resources Department.  The work is scheduled to be from mid-July and continue until the end of February, depending on the salmon presence.  Duties will include collecting and recording data for salmon stock assessment surveys, using GPS, preparing field reports and data entry.  Candidates must be physically fit, have knowledge of outdoor safety, and be prepared to work outdoors in all conditions.  Candidates will be required to work in the river and to work in rough terrain.   We are seeking candidates who can contribute to a positive team environment.

Additionally, we will be seeking candidates with abilities to assist in the set-up of the sockeye salmon counting fence which entails the installation of the fence weir into the river.  We encourage applications from those with the skills and experience in river roving efforts and salmon sampling.


  • Be punctual, reliable and prepared to work outside in all conditions
  • Conduct field duties and data collection under the direction of the crew supervisor
  • Fill out Daily Activity Report
  • Fill out the daily truck log
  • Prepare project field report and data entry, as required
  • Contribute to the management of the tools and equipment
  • Support and role model values and vision of Líl̓wat Nation
  • Assist with other deliverables as required

Qualifications Required: 

  • Valid BC Driver’s license Class 5 or Class 7(N) license is a requirement
  • Level 1 first aid
  • Fisheries Field Technician Certificate or equivalent
  • Physical ability to work in and about the rivers, streams, and rough terrain
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Basic Report Writing skills
  • Ability to operate a Global Positioning System (GPS)
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in data collection and analysis an asset
  • Owns or access to use of a vehicle
  • Swift-water and Flood Rescue Certification an asset
  • RISC Archaeological & CMT Training Certificate an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Líl̓wat Nation culture, history and traditional territory an asset
