The Health Director is responsible for providing the overall direction, leadership and management for the planning, development, implementation and administration of Líl̓wat Health and Healing Programs, Services, facilities and  resources.

Summary:

The Health Director is responsible for providing the overall direction, leadership and management for the planning, development, implementation and administration of Líl̓wat Health and Healing Programs, Services, facilities and   resources. The Health programs and services will become a cornerstone and key partner in our Nation re building      process. We are seeking innovation, new ways of creating a community climate of wellness.

Key Deliverables:

  • Provides leadership and governance of Líl̓wat Health and Healing (LHH) services in accordance with the Vision, Mission, Values Statement and Strategic Plans of the Líl̓wat Nation
  • Creates and maintains partnerships with internal partners including leadership, administration, Líl̓wat staff, community and external partners including First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), local and regional health service providers and joint project partners such as other First Nations health organizations
  • Ensures strong management of Programs and Services through quality monitoring and quality improvement practices
  • In compliance with the Líl̓wat Nation Finance Policy, manages Líl̓wat Health and Healing budgets including approving annual program budgets, presenting budgets to administration for approval, authorizing expenditures and monitoring income and expenditures
  • Identifies and understands emerging issues and advocates for resolution of those issues at the appropriate tables
  • Leads Health Planning including needs assessment and monitoring, strategic planning, health plan development and monitoring
  • Identifies the organization’s strengths and gaps and pursues appropriate resources to address gaps
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of current health trends, issues, best practices and initiatives
  • In consultation with the Líl̓wat Nation Human Resources Manager, operationalize  the HR POLICY.
  • Ensures appropriate contracts are in place to manage the performance relationship with our partners
  • Ensures effective communication at all levels within the LHH organization and between LHH and the Nation administration, leadership and the community

Key Qualifications / Experience and Knowledge:

  • Post-secondary degree in Health Administration and/ or Social Services
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading, planning, developing and managing Community Health and Wellness Programs at a senior management level
  • Formal training in Management, Leadership, Supervision, Conflict Resolution, Budgeting and Financial Negotiations, Human Resource Management, Planning, Policy Development, Report Writing, Communication
  • Directly related experience working with a First Nation Organizations resulting in a strong cultural sensitivity and understanding
  • Experience in the development and management of budgets and related funding agreements / grants
  • Demonstrate tact, discretion and team building skills
  • Ability to evaluate and develop policies and standard operating procedures(SOP)
  • Strong problem-solving skills involving administrative, client/customer services, interpersonal challenges all in a multiple issues environment
