This contract completes March 31, 2018. The Manager of Trades & Training will oversee one staff member (Employment Support Coordinator) and a part-time office worker.

Hours of work:    35 per week

Summary: This contract completes March 31, 2018. The Manager of Trades & Training will oversee one staff member (Employment Support Coordinator) and a part-time office worker. The Manager of Trades & Training will oversee the completing of the Carpentry Level 1 program and support the participants in finding and sustaining employment. The position will also oversee the Industry Trades program. Both programs are funded by the Ministry of Jobs, Training and Tourism.

The Manager of Trades & Training will be responsible for the completing of the Carpentry Training Program and the day-to-day running of the Industry Certificate & Training Program is the Manager of Trades & Training’s responsibility to ensure that the highest standards in programming and delivery are maintained.

Key Deliverables:

  • Oversee, coordinate and implement/manage all aspects of the Carpentry Training Program and the Industry Certificate & Training Program
  • Responsible for program budgets, including monthly tracking, invoicing, and reports
  • Oversee program recruitment, including participant intake, screening and selection process
  • Complete all reports and post-program client tracking as required by funders
  • Monitor the progress of the program and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the program
  • Ensure that the program deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality

  • Supervise workshop facilitators to ensure excellence in programming and delivery
  • Build/maintain strong relationships with employers and employment organizations in the Mt. Currie, Pemberton and Whistler areas
  • Work as part of the Support Team in order to assist students in breaking down barriers to success and monitor attendance/addressing issues and concerns of participants
  • Supervise the Employment Support Coordinator
  • Support the Employment Support Coordinator in ensuring clients are successful in completing their training programs and acquire/retain employment
  • Write proposals for future programs
  • Other duties as required

Experience & Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Education, or relevant field an asset.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a First Nations Community,
  • 3-5 years’ experience project management/coordinating programs and managing complex budgets,
  • 3-5 years of successful proposal writing;
  • Minimum 2 years of office administration experience.

  • An ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relations with the Band Office staff, local employers and the Chambers of Commerce for Pemberton and Whistler
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and conflict resolution skills
  • Possessing an aptitude for organization and planning
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as be a cooperative and contributing member of a team
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Líl̓wat Nation’s culture, history
  • Cross cultural communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a strong ability in report writing and proposal writing
  • Advanced level computer skills and knowledge, including:
    • knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Access & Excel)
    • proficient data management skills
  • Knowledge of challenges and opportunities for employment on- and off-reserve
  • Must be capable of working flexible hours inclusive of evenings/weekends when required ; Valid BC Driver’s License, Vehicle and Drivers Abstract
  • Criminal background check required
