Title:                              Youth Clinical Counsellor

Status:                          Regular Full Time
Reporting to:           Mental Health Team Lead, Líl̓wat Health & Healing
Wage/Salary:          Dependent on Experience


Líl̓wat Nation, Health and Healing is seeking to hire a Clinical Counsellor who specializes in working with youth (ages 12-30).  This position will also provide health promotion supports to youth in collaboration with Líl̓wat Health services and community agencies.

 Key Deliverables:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of counselling skills and therapeutic modalities
  • Ability to engage and build safe and trusting relationships with youth, community members and staff
  • Self-motivated, committed, highly organized and sensitive to community needs
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a positive, compassionate and non-judgmental attitude
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth; in particular youth who struggle with issues of self-esteem, bullying, identity, sexual health and parent-child conflict

Key Responsibilities, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Facilitates goals and objectives for the Team in planning and evaluating services
  • Ensures services and standards of the Cedar Circle Counselling Team are delivered in a culturally relevant and respectful manner
  • Documents and maintains case files in a professional and confidential manner
  • Serves as a role model in wellness
  • Provide culturally relevant counselling services to youth of Líl̓wat Nation
  • Work one on one with youth to build solid life skills
  • Documents and maintains case files in a professional and confidential manner
  • Delivers culturally relevant educational information to youth and community
  • Serves as a role model in wellness
  • Actively participates as a member of the Cedar Circle Counselling Team
  • Provides support and advocacy with school and community resources
  • Support youth to access and attend events/workshops that are relevant to their health and wellness
  • Willing to learn the history and culture of Líl̓wat Nation
  • Must be flexible with work schedule


  • Master’s degree in counselling or social work with a minimum of three (3) years counselling experience; or a bachelor’s degree in counselling or social work with a minimum of five (5) years counselling experience
  • Current registration/membership with a recognized professional organization
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Criminal record check
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
