Líl̓wat Nation Appoints Tara Smith as Interim Chief Administrative Officer

Mount Currie, BC, September 16, 2025 – The Líl̓wat Nation is pleased to announce the appointment of Tara Smith, S̲vklóy | Yám̓k̓cen, as Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective August 18, 2025.
Born and raised in Líl̓wat, Tara’s life has been deeply shaped by her grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and many respected Elders and leaders of the Nation. Through their teachings, she learned the importance of family, service, and community responsibility. These values continue to guide her leadership today, grounded in care, resilience, and a vision for a thriving future for Líl̓wat people.
Tara brings a breadth of experience serving the Nation through the Chiefs and Council, Board of Education, and various community service roles, including General Manager of Community Services for the past year. Her extensive involvement has provided her with a deep understanding of governance, administration, and the needs of community members. Tara draws strength and motivation from her children, grandchildren, and future generations, who inspire her to help create a healthy and sustainable Nation for years to come.
As Interim CAO, Tara will lead the Nation’s administration while overseeing a full structural and financial review. Her priorities include supporting staff, ensuring operational stability, and aligning organizational structures with the Nation’s growth and expanding business enterprises.
“This is a time of transition for our Nation,” says Smith. “I chose to step into this role to provide the stability and continuity we need as we move forward. My focus is on supporting our staff and community while helping to strengthen the structures and relationships that will guide us into the future. I am deeply honoured to serve our people and work to maintain a strong and thriving Nation.”
