We are happy to report that after many months of work, the Lil’wat Nation Naming and Recognition project is wrapping up the most recent phase of its signage program.  Just last week three new informational signs, designed with content provided by Lil’wat Elders, were installed in kiosks in Nairn, Joffre and Duffy Lake Provincial Parks.

Along with the large sign that was already installed at the Pemberton Visitor Information Centre, these signs are meant to share stories, photos and lessons about how Lil’wat have utilized and continue to use the resources within the Territory.  One more sign will be going up at the Shadow Lake parking lot later this summer.

Many thanks to Johnny Jones for providing his great maps, Lex Joseph for investigating the stories and legends, Tanis Grandbois and Lois Joseph (plus the LCHLA) for reviewing the contents and the members of the Naming and Recognition working group for contributing the content.  We’d also like to thank Jennifer Stone at Black Cat Graphics for her creative design work and John Tisdale, our Parks Area Supervisor for his continued support.
