A Message from Mental Health Counsellor Begun Ozeke

Hello everyone,

For those of you I haven’t had the pleasure to meet in person yet, my name is Begum Ozeke – I am a Registered Clinical Counselling Psychologist (RCC) and I had the honour to serve the Lil̓wat Nation from January 2018 until mid-March 2020, from the Lil̓wat Health and Healing (LHH) centre, where I provided in-person mental health services.

My areas of specialty are complex trauma and intergenerational trauma, resulting post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and co-occurring grief, anxiety, and depression problems. However, I support my clients for various other issues as well. I provide client-centered, culturally sensitive, strengths-based, and effective evidence-based therapy modalities, to support my clients on their healing journey.

I am very happy to announce that I will be resuming my role as the Mental Health Counsellor as a member of the Cedar Circle Counselling (CCC) team, to provide online support/counselling/therapy services to the community during these challenging times. I would like to sincerely thank firstly our Health Director, Jessica Frank, for giving me this opportunity to continue to serve the Lil̓wat Nation, and the LHH Nursing Team for developing this idea.

I will be available for video/online therapy sessions three days/week (Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday) from 9am-5pm.

To book a session with me or to ask for mental health resources, please contact me via my work email: Begum.Ozeke@lilwat.ca. After we set up a date/time for your session, you will receive an email from me with a link to easily connect to your session at the scheduled time.

Should you require a phone call from me, please kindly send me an email with your phone number and the reason for your request, and I will return your call as soon as I can during the work hours. All emails received after the end of the work shift (5pm) will be answered next workday. All session bookings, cancellations, and re-scheduling will be done via email.

As there are many individuals that might want to benefit from mental health support at this time, I kindly ask you to please give me at least a 24-hour notice if you would like to cancel or reschedule your session. This will ensure that I can use that time to serve another community member who could benefit from having a session that day.

I am also planning to bring you live online webinars once every week, if there is an interest from the community, with the hope to further support your wellbeing during these times of high stress and anxiety. Please feel free to email me with the possible topics that would be helpful to you, and I will give priority to those topics that were requested by most.

I look forward to working with you!

Warm regards,

Begum Ozeke, MCP, RCC
