Líl̓wat Nation is pleased to announce the launch of Phase 2 of the IR 6 Septic Tank Upgrading project. Following the successful start of this initiative in 2023, this phase continues our commitment to modernizing the wastewater infrastructure within the Xet̓ólacw community.
Project Overview
Xet̓ólacw Septic Tank Upgrading is a multi-year effort to locate, inspect, and pump out every septic tank in the upper community to prevent system blockages and backups. By upgrading aging infrastructure, we ensure a reliable wastewater system that protects our local environment and groundwater.
Key Project Details
- Timeline: Work begins February 23, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude in April 2026.
- Locations: This phase focuses on all houses located along Lake View Dr, Hidden Ln, Hemlock Cr, and Grouse Cr.
- Contractor: Work will be performed by Sp’akw’us Civil Constructors.
- Scope of Work: Each septic tank will be located, pumped out, and excavated to allow for inspection. To improve future maintenance, crews will install access hatches and cleanouts before backfilling and restoring the site.
What to Expect During Construction
Residents in the affected areas should be prepared for the following:
- Property Access: Crews will require access to your yard with a backhoe and pumper truck. Each tank typically requires a minimum of 3–4 hours of work, though more time may be needed if repairs are identified.
- Water Usage Restrictions: You may be notified to refrain from using the toilet or running water while the crew is actively working on your tank.
- Noise & Equipment: Expect to see heavy machinery and workers in the area. There may be temporary noise and minor odors during the pumping and excavation process.
- Site Restoration: A landscaping crew will follow the construction team to perform repairs to damaged lawns or yards once the mechanical work is complete.
