Due to an issue with the water pump on Xit’olacw, we are asking that all community members living at the New Site please CONSERVE WATER.
The pump failed yesterday afternoon and we are expecting an interim pump to be installed tomorrow. The issue for the community is that our water tank is not getting refilled so at the moment there is only a certain amount of water in the tank for the community to share. Last night the tank was at 75% full, this morning it is only 25% full. We are using water at a rate of 340,000 litres per day.
There is a plan in place to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We are working on getting a water tanker up to Xit’olacw this afternoon to refill the supply however the tank only holds 25,000 litres so a number of trips will have to be made in order for us to just maintain service. It is very important that everyone try to use less water.
Some things to consider:
Only use water when absolutely necessary!
Toilets, clothes washers and showers use the most water in an average household
- Flush less!
- Wait until tomorrow evening to take a shower or take a very short shower turning the water off while soaping or shampooing.
- Don’t run the water while you are brushing your teeth.
- Do not do laundry or run the dishwasher today.
- If you must wash dishes, fill a small tub with water and use that. Reuse as much water as possible.
Drink bottled water instead of tap water (even though our tap water is just as tasty!)
The schools, daycare and health centre have been closed for today and at this point we anticipate that they will re-open tomorrow.
Please pass this notice on and share it with anyone who lives in Xit’olacw. It’s important that everyone does their part to get through this water shortage.
Thank you for your support and patience.
