Housing Board

Invitation for Expression of Interest for two of five Housing Board Members.

Role of the Board

It shall be the responsibility of the Housing Board to:

  • Ensuring accessibility of the Board and its operations to Members of the Community.
  • Drafting Housing policies and making Housing Policy recommendations to Chiefs in Council regarding all aspects of the Administration of the First Nation’s Housing Portfolio, including new construction, maintenance, rental units, repairs, tenant selection, and so on.
  • Keeping informed about the programs and projects being undertaken within the Community and actively participate in Housing project engagement meetings.
  • Reviewing and making changes (or making recommendations for changes) to housing policies as needed.

 Housing Board Members Responsible for:

  • Attending all Housing Board meetings.
  • Monitoring Housing projects and programs.
  • Maintaining contact with Members of the community to be up to date on the general needs and concerns of Band Members in relation to Housing and Housing programs.
  • Making recommendations to Chiefs in Council regarding Housing policies and programs.
  • Keeping up to date on relevant codes, policies and bylaws and building technologies.

Composition

The Housing Board shall be composed of:

  • One member of Council appointed by Council/Portfolio Holder: and
  • Five members appointed by Council Eligibility
  • Eligible voter of Lil’wat Nation
  • Be a good character, credibility, reputation and in good standing with the Lil’wat Nation Community and Administration.

Exclusions 

  • A person convicted of an offence by way of indictment or felony conviction within five (5) years prior to the date of the appointment.
  • Any person convicted of corrupt practice in connection with an election, including accepting a bribe, dishonesty, or wrongful conduct.

Term

Appointed Members shall sit on the Housing Board for a maximum of four (4) years, but they are not precluded from being appointed for further terms. In some cases, the Housing Board may need to fill a vacancy. If this is the case, the vacancy will be filled for the remaining length of the original appointment.

Meetings

Regularly scheduled meeting of the Housing Board will typically be held once a month.

Honoraria 

Honoraria will be made available to the Housing Board members at the rates set out in Lil’wat Nation policy.

Deadline for Application April 13, 2022, at NOON. Late applications will NOT be considered.

Selection Housing Board applications will be reviewed by Housing Administration as soon as practical following the deadline. Chief and Council will then appoint members to the Committee from the applicant pool. All applicants will be notified once the selection process has concluded.
