There has been recent media attention given to the BC Timber Sales Draft Pesticide Management Plan, which includes proposed use of herbicides for vegetation management on forestry cut blocks.

The Draft Pesticide Management Plan in question has only a small overlap with Líl̓wat Territory, and the Lands and Resources Department has confirmed with BC Timber Sales that no spraying is occurring in Líl̓wat Territory.

BC Timber Sales and the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operation are required to consult with Líl̓wat Nation on any proposed plans for herbicide use within Líl̓wat Territory.  Through our consultation process, the Líl̓wat Land Use Referral Committee will review and respond to protect Líl̓wat cultural, heritage and ecological values in the land.  Over the years the Committee has consistently opposed the use of herbicides for vegetation management.
