Líl̓wat Nation Issues Banishments

The Líl̓wat Nation has issued banishments for three individuals from Líl̓wat Nation Reserves.  One is a Líl̓wat Citizen, while the other two are not.  This action has been taken as a public safety measure to protect the community.

Each individual has been or will be served a Band Council Resolution by a member of Council accompanied by Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police. The two individuals who are not Líl̓wat have until March 21st, 2024 to leave the community.  The Líl̓wat citizen has until March 29, 2024, to leave the Líl̓wat Nation reserve and will not be allowed to return to community for a minimum period of two years.

Moving forward, the Nation will continue to take action against individuals who harm other members and their families. Actions that will be considered include:

  • Enforcement of the Líl̓wat Nation Housing Policy including eviction
  • Banishment from community
  • Pursuing criminal charges
